Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri has opened up about how she plans to conquer the marathon at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The world 10,000m silver medallist was once again selected to represent the country in the global bonanza and she has disclosed plans to claim the Olympic gold medal since it is the only accolade missing in her cabinet.
Speaking to The Star, Obiri disclosed that winning her second Boston Marathon title is motivation enough for her as she seeks to surprise the world and claimtop honours.

She was selected alongside defending champion Peres Jepchirchir, former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei and the 2022 New York City Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi, the latter as a reserve.

“I believe I have what it takes to shine in Paris after successfully defending my title in Boston. It was not all that easy. Winning gave me a lot of hope for the next competition. Accomplishing a feat of such magnitude requires one to work extra hard,” she said.
The reigning New York City Marathon champion has also insisted on teamwork if Team Kenya has to post great results on the global stage.

The many Olympic firsts that await Kenya’s marathon team in Paris
Kenya unveiled a formidable Olympic marathon team that comprise defending champions Eliud Kipchoge and Peres Jepchirchir but all six runners are eyeing their own ‘first’ in Paris.
She also noted that the Olympics are a familiar territory and the only difference is that she will be competing in the marathon and not on the track.
"I'm happy to represent my motherland at the Games and I'll do my best to prove my worth in Team Kenya. It won't be an entirely strange environment for me. I've participated in the Olympics before. The only difference is that I competed in track events so I'll be in a familiar territory," Obiri stated.
"I agree with my teammates that teamwork will play a big role in Kenya's success at the Games. We have a set of great and brilliant athletes capable of garnering all the medals for the country in the marathon."
