Usain Bolt opens up about two footballers he would have loved to race against when he was at his prime.

Multiple Olympic champion Usain Bolt remains the fastest man alive with his records in 100-meter and 200-meter races still intact.

The Jamaican broke the records in 2009, and 16 years later, no athlete has attempted to challenge the Jamaican, not even current Olympic 100m champion Noa Lyles.

The seven-time Olympic champion is one of the most decorated sprinters and remains vocal off the track, eight years after hanging up his spikes aged 31 after a spate of nagging injuries that threatened to destabilise his career.

Bolt, the 11-time World Champion, was specifically asked which two footballers, past or present, he would like to race against. The 38-year-old categorically picked a World Cup winning forward and former Real Madrid wing magician as two players he would have loved to race.

Bolt told Yahoo: "I think the two that we talked about were definitely Mbappe, because people really feel like he's that quick!. Mbappe and Gareth Bale. I think those are the two I would definitely like to line up with."

Mbappe, considered one of the fastest players owing to his blistering pace, especially on the counter attacks, responded to claims of racing Bolt.

The Frenchman said that he would be interested in racing Bolt - though didn't give himself any chance of winning.

"I have no chance. I think so, too. Knowing that I inspire someone like that is really gratifying. I think he inspired everyone a little bit, too, and every one of you in this room has gotten up in the middle of the night to watch one of his races. It's mutual. But I started admiring him first!"

The Jamaican has tried his hands at various other sports, including football. He played several friendlies for Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2018, but ultimately decided not to pursue a professional football career.

A new athletics 'super track', which claims to possess the technology to reduce times by up to 20 per cent, could theoretically allow a sprinter to beat Bolt's record if permitted by the IAAF for future competitions.
