The United States stormed to victory in the women’s 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 on Sunday (21), with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone anchoring the team to a championship record and reaffirming American dominance in the event.

The quartet of Isabella Whittaker, Lynna Irby-Jackson, Aaliyah Butler, and McLaughlin-Levrone were in control from the opening leg, leading from start to finish to secure the nation’s 11th world title in this event. Their winning time of 3:16.61 erased the previous championship record of 3:16.71 set by another U.S. squad back in 1993.

McLaughlin-Levrone, fresh from her individual 400m triumph earlier in the week, delivered a breathtaking anchor split of 47.82 seconds, cementing the U.S. win with authority.

Jamaica Battles to Silver as Netherlands Clinch Bronze

Jamaica kept the contest alive for much of the race, thanks to strong legs from Stacey-Ann Williams and Nickisha Pryce, but ultimately had to settle for silver in 3:19.25.

Defending champions Netherlands fought hard but could not match the blistering U.S. pace, finishing third in 3:20.18. Star quarter-milers Lieke Klaver and Femke Bol delivered strong runs, but it was not enough to hold off the American charge.

The victory not only underlined the United States’ historic dominance in the women’s 4x400m, but also highlighted McLaughlin-Levrone’s extraordinary versatility across both the flat 400m and hurdles. With her blistering anchor, she further confirmed her status as one of the greatest 400m runners in history.
