Youngster Samuel Kibathi displayed a scintillating run to claim victory in the men's under-20 race at the World Cross Country Championships.
Samuel Kibathi oozed class to bag Kenya’s first gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships happening in Belgrade, Serbia.
Competing in the men’s under-20 race which was also a tight race on its own with the dominance from Ethiopians and Kenyans, Kibathi was looking very poised throughout the race. Japanese runners were also among the top 25 runners making the race even more interesting.
Sewmehon Anteneh of Ethiopia was leading the strong pack with Charles Rotich, Matthew Kipruto, Johana Erot, and Shadrack Kipkemei closely following him.

World Cross Country Clean podium sweep as Ethiopians silence Kenyans in the women's under-20 race in Belgrade
Ethiopians have shown Team Kenya dust in the African-dominated women's under-20 race at the World Cross Country Championships.
The Kenyan quartet pushed the pace on and as they were going to the fourth lap, Kipruto took charge as Rotich and Kipkemei followed closely, silencing Ethiopia’s Anteneh. Samuel Kibathi was now running in sixth place and he was also looking strong and made it look easy running.
Kipruto was testing the athletes and he was seen consulting his fellow runners on the way to go and they were closely following him. The Ethiopian was also chasing the Kenyans with no sign of him resigning from holding onto his opponents.
Kipruto’s aggressive front running attracted another Ethiopian, Mezgebu Sime who overtook the Kenyans and was now running behind Kipruto. Kibathi had also come up and was looking comfortable.

Emmaculate Anyango is out to change the narrative that Luos cannot do well in long-distance running as she eyes a podium finish at the World Cross Country Championships.
They kept accelerating with Sime working so hard and taking all the punches that Kipruto was throwing at him. Kibathi who entered the race lying lowkey then took charge of the race with the finish line in sight.
He then sprinted to the finish line, cutting the tape in 22:40 as Sime finished second in a time of 22:41. Kipruto, who perhaps did all the donkey work managed to finish third in 22:46.
