Quincy Hall playfully teases Noah Lyles over his 400m debut and $15K race talk, while showing unexpected respect.

Olympic 400m champion Quincy Hall could not resist taking a lighthearted jab at sprinting star Noah Lyles following the latter's much-anticipated professional debut in the 400m.

After Lyles’ race at the 2025 Tom Jones Memorial meet, where he placed 14th in a field of 26 with a personal best of 45.87 seconds, Hall chimed in with a humorous yet respectful response that has stirred track fans online.

The Tom Jones Memorial marked a new chapter for Lyles, who is best known for his prowess in the 100m and 200m sprints.

Despite his underwhelming finish in the longer distance, Lyles showed commendable willingness to challenge himself in unfamiliar territory. The race was won by Christopher Robinson in a blistering 44.15 seconds, more than a full second ahead of Lyles.

“Then had the nerve to say at the olympics we can race for 15k 😂😂 I ain’t talking smack tho cause he went out there and raced 💯💯most people wouldn’t even step out there so hats off to him 💯🐎,” Hall posted on X (formerly Twitter), referencing Lyles' earlier boast about a $15,000 Olympic race challenge.

The quote, which quickly went viral, highlighted the playful tension between the two U.S. stars—a storyline that’s grown since July 2024 when Lyles famously omitted Hall from his dream 4x400m Olympic relay team.

At the time, Lyles picked Chris Bailey, Michael Norman, Rai Benjamin, and himself. Hall, then the reigning U.S. 400m champion, was notably left out.

Hall clapped back in a now-deleted X post as per SportsKeeda, writing, “I don’t bother nobody but my blocks ready anytime you feel like you can beat me in the 400 you was talking (too) much on my name on (your) little podcast. I don’t do the little slick comments and remarks, I line up.”

Despite their online sparring, the mutual respect between the two has become increasingly apparent.

After the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Hall clinched gold in the 400m and Lyles took home gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, Lyles offered praise to Hall for his victory.

Lyles, a six-time World Champion, remains a larger-than-life figure in the sprinting world, known for his confidence and charisma.
