Mercy Cherono: I Did Not Run as I Expected

She framed the season as a learning experience, confident that the lessons and progress from 2025 will help her perform better in the months to come.

“At least the training today hasn't been so bad. Actually, I can say the whole season, I didn't run as I expected, but at least there's some progress, and I'm looking forward to what the future holds for me as I'm heading to the road races,” she revealed in an interview with Runners Kenya.

Mercy Cherono added that since the cross country, she had expected to compete in several races. She revealed that her preparation had been disrupted by a hamstring injury, which she is currently recovering from.

“This year I didn't run as I was expecting, since the last cross country. I was expecting to run some races, and the cross country was just a preparation, but unfortunately, I pulled my hamstring, which I'm recovering from,” she pointed out.

“There are a lot of improvements, but I'm looking forward to what's ahead of me since I see my rehabilitation of the injury is going well, and I feel much better. At least I can move now and do the training.”

Despite a challenging 2025 season, Mercy Cherono remains positive, viewing her recovery and recent progress as a strong foundation for a successful transition to road running.
