The 27-year-old has set ambitious goals as he looks to dominate the New York City Marathon and other road races in a quest to stop the Kenyan charge.

Ethiopia’s Jemal Yimer is a man on a mission as he looks to stop Kenyans from reigning in road races going forward.

Speaking to World Athletics, the 27-year-old made his intentions clear about bagging wins and running faster times in all major races.

He intends to run all World Marathon Majors which include the New York City, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo, London, and the Boston Marathons. He has so far been a student of the sport and he is continuing with his learning as he eyes to make a mark on the global stage.

“First, I focus on training, then I have many plans on the business end for the future. My goal is to run fast times, to run all the major marathons, and to win world and Olympic medals,” the father of one said.

As he switched to road running, Yimer changed coaches and now trains under the tutelage of Getamesay Molla.

He will be heading to the New York City Marathon where he will be aiming to make his first impression on the global stage.

His PB of 2:08:58 ranks him 13th, though his rivals know that’s not a true reflection of his ability. His coach, Molla, strongly believes that Yimer will come out with something good.

“We can expect a good result in New York. I expect he’ll be on the podium,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yimer earned his first international vest in 2016, finishing fourth at the African Championships over 10,000m.

The following year he hit a new level, finishing fourth at the World Cross Country Championships in Uganda, helping Ethiopia to team gold, and he went on to finish fifth in the 10,000m at the 2017 World Championships in London, clocking 26:56.11.

In 2018, Yimer finished fourth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, just one second behind the bronze medallist. Later that year, he returned to Valencia and won in a then-Ethiopian half marathon record of 58:33.

In 2020, Yimer made his long-awaited marathon debut at the Valencia Marathon in December, but he was unable to finish.

In 2021, Boston was back on the calendar and Yimer turned in a superb debut performance there, finishing third in 2:10:38.

In 2022, Yimer returned to Boston and finished eighth in 2:08:58, and earlier this year he claimed victory at the Los Angeles Marathon in 2:13:13. In August this year he finished second at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in Northern Ireland in 58:38.

He was also in action in the half marathon at the World Road Running Championships but failed to finish in the podium bracket.
