Mary Moraa is set to race over a longer distance in Monaco after facing challenges in her usual 800m events this season.
Mary Moraa has switched to a longer distance ahead of the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco, scheduled for Friday, July 11.
The reigning world champion has struggled to impress in her speciality, securing only two wins in the 800m. She won the two-lap race at the Grand Slam Track Miami and also claimed top honours at the National Championships, competing in the heats.
The rest of her 800m races have not gone the way she expected, with her season opener at the Grand Slam Track Kingston, where she was a huge favourite to win but faded to eighth place.

Now, after her struggle in the 800m, Mary Moraa has opted to test her sharpness with a slightly longer distance, the 1000m.
After a string of 1500m outings earlier in the season, Mary Moraa and her coach, Alex Sang, have decided she should take on a distance longer than the 800m but slightly shorter than the 1500m.

Millions Beatrice Chebet Will Earn After Breaking 5000m World Record
Beatrice Chebet became the first woman to run the 5000m in under 14 minutes at the Prefontaine Classic.
This will be her first 1000m race of the season, and she will be hoping to get the rhythm right and hopefully dominate. Her last 1000m race was at the 2024 Diamond League Meeting in Silesia, where she clocked a personal best time of 2:33.43.
In the 1000m in Monaco, Mary Moraa will be joined by compatriot Nelly Chepchirchir, who also competed against the Olympic 800m bronze medallist in Silesia last year and denied her victory.
Other strong contenders include Jessica Hull, Jemma Reekie and Saron Berhe among other formidable distance runners.
