Gabby Thomas spills the beans about what she needs to do to become a complete athlete as she enters a crucial stage in her career.

Olympic champion Gabby Thomas has opened up about what she needs to improve on in order to maintain her top-notch performances on track.

Thomas, 28, clinched three gold medals at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. The American silenced a stack field enroute to bagging the 200m gold before aiding the USA relays team to grab gold in the 4x100m and 4x400m.

Thomas, who was born in Georgia and raised in Massachusetts, told The Guardian that she needs to work on her body angle, the way her feet strike the ground and particularly her drive phase before hitting the bend.

“I am very type A and into analysing how I run. I’ll talk to my coach about it over and over again. She tells me to try not to get wrapped up into it all the time. Because when you’re overthinking you do start to run slow. But the drive phase, in particular, is something we practise over and over again, meticulously. It’s very, very technical but it sets you up for the entire race," Thomas reiterated.

Thomas, who is a master of public health degree holder, said if she gets this act together, she will become a tough nut to crush.

“If I can get that part even stronger, I will be really, really hard to beat. When you look at Flo-Jo’s 200m world record her second 100m is insane, astronomical in fact. So that’s what you really want to do: your first 100m is setting you up to have an unreal second one.”

Thomas signed up with the Michael Johnson Grand Slam event last year. GabbyThomas’ decision to drop down to the Short Sprints proved costly as she lost out on the Grand Slam Track title in Miami on Saturday.

The Miami edition was the second leg of the inaugural event and Thomas, who had won the Long Sprints (200m and 400m) in the first edition in Kingston, Jamaica last month opted to drop down to the Short Sprints (100m and 200m) in Miami but found the going tough.

She could only finish fourth in 100m before being pushed hard in her specialty 200m to win by a close margin.

She will seek to rediscover her winning formula in the remaining two legs ahead of the World Championships set for Tokyo, Japan, September.
