Eliud Kipchoge has made his remarks concerning the marathon team selected ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has made his remarks following the marathon team selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games later this year.

The men’s team will be led by Kipchoge himself, who will seek to make history by winning his third successive title over the distance. In the campaign, he will be joined by Benson Kipruto, Timothy Kiplagat, Alexander Mutiso and Vincent Kipng’etich but Athletics Kenya has yet to name the final squad.

The women’s race will be headlined by defending champion Peres Jepchirchir who will be joined by former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei, Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri, former Tokyo Marathon champion Rosemary Wanjiru, and two-time Chicago Marathon champion Ruth Chepng’etich. Former New York City Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi is also in the mix.

Speaking during the unveiling of the team, Kipchoge extended a hand of gratitude to AK for granting the athletes another opportunity to don the Kenyan jersey one more time on the global stage.

“We are excited and happy to represent the country and wear the flag again. We will actually practice the virtue of patriotism.

“We have about four months and the preparation is going on well and this is a good time to continue training and focus. This is just but the start since the team has been named today.

“We can’t preempt what will happen…we also believe in teamwork because it’s the key to success and trusting each other too. We shall train separately but keep tabs on each other,” the four-time London Marathon champion said.

He added that hard work and determination are two key things that have worked for him in the years he has been running. He explained that having a goal is what will enable the team to walk out with a medal.

The five-time Berlin Marathon champion did not downplay the fact that competing at the Olympics in itself is always a great thing.
