Liberian-turned American sprinter Maia McCoy is looking to the Kip Keino Classic to provide her with the confidence she needs to vie for a ticket to the 2025 World Championships.

Liberian-turned US sprinter Maia McCoy is looking to use the Kip Keino Classic to gauge her level of preparedness for the 2025 World Championships trials.

The US trials are some of the toughest events on the planet and involves the best there is in the business and McCoy knows it will not be easy to clinch a ticket to the global event in Tokyo, Japan in September.

This is why she is leaning on the Kip Keino Classic to bring her the positive vibes that she needs for a challenge for the coveted ticket.

“I love the track, I love the stadium and I am looking forward to doing a good race. Definitely I have come here to compete and win and I am pretty confident in my abilities on the track,” McCoy told Telecomasia.net.

US Sprinter Hoping to Improve Her Personal Best

“I know it will be tough competition but I am ready for it. I have done two Diamond League races already and finished sixth and second. Winning here in Nairobi will be great for my confidence as well. The USA trials for the worlds are not the easiest and you need to go there with your confidence high.”

The 28-year-old understands the African continent very well having raced for Liberia at the African Games, clocking 11.49 seconds in the 100m to win silver, as well as the African Championships last year.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, McCoy has a personal best of 11.07 seconds attained this year and hopes to improve it as the season progresses to put her in good stead for a place in the US team to the World Championships.
