Akani Simbine is determined to keep chasing his Olympic dream, with his sights firmly set on competing at the LA 2028 Games.

Reigning world indoor bronze medallist Akani Simbine has opened up about his goals as he looks to join Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in defying age.

The fastest man alive, Usain Bolt, retired at 31, but Akani Simbine is currently the same age but is not stopping at that; he also wants to compete at the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The South African sprint sensation has been in the game for over 10 years, and he claimed that he still feels like he started his career yesterday, and there are so many years ahead of him to continue gracing the world with his talent.

The 4x100m Olympic silver medallist revealed that age is just a number and it could be the least of factors as he eyes longevity.

He pointed out that the LA 2028 Olympic Games are definitely on the cards for him and maybe perhaps, it would be the moment he wins his first individual Olympic medal.

Akani Simbine further explained that being an athlete is on top of his favourite things to do, noting that it gives him a sense of fulfilment, one of the reasons he is reluctant to retire soon.

He added that when that time comes, he will have to gauge how his body is and if he can run fast, then he would definitely be on the starting line.

"I'm not thinking about age. I don't think about how long I've been in the game, I just take every year as it comes,” Akani Simbine said as quoted by BBC Sport.

"It's just having and building a really great system around me that is keeping me in the game for so long. And 2028 is the plan, but it might be my last Olympics.

"I think the body will decide if it still wants to run fast, then I will definitely stick around. I love running, I love travelling. I love pushing my body to being fast and being in this space. It's really, really fun."

He has already started his 2025 season and so far, is unbeaten in the 100m, looking to maintain the form until the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

He opened his outdoor season at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, where he claimed the win in a world-leading time of 9.90 seconds. He then claimed consecutive wins in the Diamond League Meetings in Xiamen and Shanghai.
