Olympic champion Noah Lyles and American sprint rival Kenny Bednarek are are currently embroiled in a heated exchange over Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track.
Thenew track and field league featuring 96 athletes competing across four cities for a $12.6 million prize pool, has completed three successful meets in Kingston, Jamaica and Miami and Philadelphi, USA.
However, the league's absence of some of the sport's biggest names, including Noah Lyles, has sparked debate.
Bednarek, a consistent performer in the Grand Slam Track, recently addressed Lyles' criticisms of the league.

Lyles, in a podcast with Cam Newton, questioned the league's visibility and financial incentives.
Lyles stated, “You can’t tell me you know what it is. Shows me that whatever they’re doing right now is not strong enough for me to get my value on the side of marketing. And you’re not giving it monetarily. So what would I be doing it for?”
In a June 5, 2025 interview with CBC Sports, Bednarek responded to Lyles' comments.
"He has his reasons for not participating," Bednarek acknowledged.

Bednarek pointed out that many athletes who haven't joined Grand Slam Track are involved in other competitions, such as the Diamond League or individual meets like Sha'Carri Richardson's appearance at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix.
Bednarek continued, "I don’t know exactly why he wants to do it. Maybe it’s not enough money. But at the end of the day, we have athletes here that actually want to help grow the sport."
Lyles previously revealed that he had discussed the Grand Slam Track concept with Johnson but declined to participate because the offered compensation didn't reflect his market value.

Bednarek has dominated the Grand Slam Track's short sprints.
The Olympic silver medalist began the 2025 series in Kingston, Jamaica, winning both the 100m and 200m, beating Oblique Seville and Zharnel Hughes in the 100m, and Hughes and Fred Kerley in the 200m.
At the Miami Slam in early May, Bednarek continued his winning streak in the 100m, ahead of Seville and Hughes.
He then won the 200m, surpassing Hughes and Andre De Grasse.
In late May, at the Philadelphia meet, Bednarek won the 200m, defeating Hughes and Aaron Brown.
He then achieved a personal best in the 100m, finishing in 9.86 seconds, ahead of Bryan Levell and Christian Coleman.
