Zambia Coach, Player and Analyst Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning in South Africa
Zambia were forced to fly to Angola without head coach Moses Sichone, midfielder Miguel Chaiwa and video analyst Elias Chipota after they fell ill in South Africa.
The Chipolopolo played South Africa in a friendly match on Saturday and lost 3-1 but after the fixture, they were left dealing with a health scare after the trio were hospitalised over suspected food poisoning.
The trio were admitted at St George Private Hospital in Port Elizabeth after their condition worsened as they had fever, diarrhea and vomiting with team doctor Wesley Ngong left behind to tend to them as the team left for Angola, where they will play a friendly match against the hosts on Tuesday.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is working closely with its host Association and the local medical authorities to ensure that the affected receive the best possible medical attention,” Football Association of Zambia General Secretary Machacha Shepande said via a social media post.

“We are also happy that some of the cases reported in the team earlier have significantly improved with the affected parties being monitored.”
It is still not clear what led to the health scare but authorities in South Africa have started looking into the matter with the help of the Zambia contingent.
Zambia arrived in South Africa on Thursday for their clash with Bafana Bafana who showed their class to secure an easy win.
Oswin Appollis, Mohau Nkota and Sphephelo Sithole gave South Africa a 3-0 lead inside 68 minutes before Joseph Sabobo scored the consolation in stoppage time for the visitors as Hugo Broos’ team extended their unbeaten run to 19 games across all competitions.
