‘You should know better’ - Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi slams Iwobi for posting controversial viral hotel video
The controversy began when Iwobi, a midfielder for Fulham, shared a silent clip showing the state of the Rive Hotel in Rabat, Morocco.
The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage among fans who questioned the Nigeria Football Federation's commitment to player welfare.
Iwobi later stated he did not intend to criticise the hotel or the football authorities by posting the video.
Mikel Obi condemns Iwobi
Mikel Obi has voiced his strong disapproval of the post's timing and its potential to create a negative atmosphere.
Speaking on his "Obi One Podcast," the former Chelsea star argued that such content should never have been made public so close to important fixtures.
"As a player, playing in Europe, living in nice accommodation, you should have known better, two days before the game," Mikel stated.
"Don’t put that up. I read the comments, you don’t want that negativity... around two days before the playoff games."
The Super Eagles of Nigeria later failed to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making it twice in a row that they will miss out on the competition.
Eric Chelle’s team made it to the final games after defeating Gabon 4-1 in the semi-final, but crashed out on penalties in the next games against DR Congo.
