The field was loaded with contenders capable of victory, but it was Yared Nuguse's self-belief that shone through as he delivered a commanding win, sharpening his preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Yared Nuguse went into the race with the hope of redeeming himself after failing to make the World Championships team at the US Championships. Competing in the 1500m, Yared Nuguse finished a distant fifth in 3:31.34.

Jonah Koech clocked a personal best time of 3:30.17 to claim top honours in the race as the duo of Ethan Strand and Cole Hocker finished second and third in respective times of 3:30.25 and 3:30.37.

Coming into the 1500m in Silesia, Yared Nuguse was looking to redeem himself and he sure did with the commanding victory, despite failing to deliver when it mattered the most, at the US Championships.

However, he still has a chance to qualify if he makes it to the Diamond League Meeting final and hopefully reigns supreme one more time.

"Tough showing for me at US Champs this weekend, 5th place finish and didn’t make the team. Really gave it my all out there and ran the race I wanted but it wasn’t quite enough," Yared Nuguse shared on his Instagram.

"This is probably the lowest moment of my pro career thus far, but I always get up and keep going, because that’s what it means to be a distance runner. Our sport continues to get better, especially in the USA, and I know that the team we’re sending is a great one. With some luck, I’ll join them 👀."

Silesia Diamond League: How the 1500m Progressed

Timothy Cheruiyot

Passing the 100m, Great Britain's Neil Gourley made his intentions clear by following the pace setters. However, Australia's Oliver Hoare was on his shoulder and he took charge as they passed the 500m mark.

The 2019 world champion, Timothy Cheruiyot, was running in second place this time, with another Australian, Cameron Myers, in third place. The athletes maintained their positions, passing the 800m mark.

As they passed the 900m mark, Oliver Hoare was in the lead, but Timothy Cheruiyot had been overtaken by Cameron Myers, with American Yared Nuguse now running in third.

However, Oliver Hoare's reign did not last long, as Yared Nuguse continued the chase and finally took the lead. Timothy Cheruiyot had bounced back from the slow run to now reclaim second place, with former world under-20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot now running behind him.

Yared Nuguse held onto the lead until he crossed the finish line first in 3:33.19, with Timothy Cheruiyot, the former Olympic 1500m silver medallist coming in second in 3:33.35. Reynold Cheruiyot and Norway's Gilje Nordas battled for third place but it was the latter who crossed the finish line first.

Nordas clocked 3:33.41, ahead of the Kenyan youngster, who narrowly missed a podium place, clocking 3:33.42.
