William Troost-Ekong: Nigerian comedian Sabinus dubbed 'new Messi' after recreating iconic picture

At the William Troost-Ekong Foundation charity match in Uyo, Nigeria, comedy star Sabinus took the spotlight by storm as fans dubbed him the 'new Messi' after an incredible recreation of the legendary footballer's famous goal-scoring pose.

The charity match, organized by Super Eagles captain and AFCON 2023 MVP William Troost-Ekong, saw a host of Nigerian celebrities take to the pitch. But it was Sabinus, who came on as a second-half substitute, that truly stole the show.

Captured by the skilled lens of photojournalist Pooja, Sabinus was photographed perfectly replicating Lionel Messi's iconic stance - left foot bent, eyes locked on the goal, body poised for the perfect strike. 

The resemblance to the Barcelona legend was uncanny, leaving fans and fellow players alike in awe.

'Old Messi, New Mess,' quipped one excited social media user, while another commented 'Why sabinus ball con still Dey ground wey Messi own Dey up?' - a testament to Sabinus' uncanny ability to channel the Argentine maestro's prowess on the pitch.

The comedian himself seemed equally delighted with the snap, taking to Instagram to ask 'which cameraman snap this picture? You deserve a gift.'

With his newfound 'Messi-like' fame, it remains to be seen whether Sabinus will trade in his comedy chops for a career on the football pitch.
