Why Inter and AC Milan could be forced to find new homes
Both AC Milan and their neighbours, Inter, could be forced to vacate the City of Milan due to the clubs’ desires to move to new stadiums.

Last season’s beaten UEFA Champions League finalists Inter joined AC Milan in seeking a new home after they acquired land for a new stadium, following a similar move from the Rossoneri.
Both clubs have sought alternatives to the iconic San Siro stadium after they failed in their attempts to have the structure refurbished.
AC Milan and Inter both pressured the city of Milan for permission to build a new San Siro structure and demolish the current stadium, however, the request was denied forcing them to seek alternatives to playing at the iconic stadium.
AC Milan and Inter could be forced to a new city
The City of Milan considers the San Siro stadium a historic monument, and are against knocking it down having already accorded it the protected status granted to important pieces of Italian culture.
Despite Inter and AC Milan acquiring land to build within the city of Milan, the City Council could prevent them from setting up shop within the municipality if they decide to seek shelter outside the San Siro.
The Milan council revealed in an official statement that, “If confirmed, the decision [to play outside the San Siro] would have serious consequences not only for the future of the stadium and its economic sustainability, but also vastly reduce the possibility the teams will remain in Milan with a new stadium.”
Both clubs are still weighing their options, but they are unlikely to change their minds on a new stadium despite the Milan council’s decision.
