Alaysha Johnson was born on July 20, 1996, in Houston, Texas, and has always been very athletic from a young age.

Johnson went to Spring High School where she dominated the track, becoming a three-time Texas 5A state champion in hurdles.

Thanks to her exceptional talent, she was also named the 2013 Gatorade Texas Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Alaysha Johnson’s high school success earned her a scholarship to the University of Oregon, where she became a seven-time All-American and set a school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.69 seconds.

She would later transfer to the Texas Tech University to further her education but also continue her athletic journey.

Alaysha Johnson started making waves while in junior school but her star shone even brighter at the University of Oregon.

Alaysha Johnson secured multiple All-American honours and played a pivotal role in the university's track and field successes.

She then transferred to the Texas Tech University where she honed her skills further and continued with her success on the track and in the lecture rooms.

Alaysha Johnson would then turn professional in 2019, and made her first US team at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon where she was disqualified from the women’s 100m hurdles.

In 2023, she failed to make the team to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary but bounced back in 2024, qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. She got to the final but faded to a seventh-place finish.

Beyond her Olympic appearance, Johnson has clinched medals at events like the Pan American Games and the NACAC Championships.

Relationship with Fred Kerley

Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested for allegedly assaulting ex-girlfriend Alaysha Johnson, causing his withdrawal from Miami race.

Alaysha Johnson was in a relationship with fellow Olympian Fred Kerley, an accomplished sprinter in his own right, for approximately six months in 2024. Their relationship ended in October of the same year.

In May 2025, during preparations for the Grand Slam Track second leg meet in Miami, Alaysha Johnson allegedly encountered Fred Kerley at a hotel.

An altercation ensued, during which Alaysha Johnson alleged that Fred Kerley struck her in the face, leading to a nosebleed.

According to police reports, it was confirmed that her injuries were consistent with her account, leading to Kerley’s arrest and charge with misdemeanor battery.

As a result of his arrest, Fred Kerley was forced to withdraw from the men’s 100m and 200m at the Grand Slam Track event.
