Tusker FC Chairman Charles Gacheru Confirms Ryan Ogam Will Leave Club for Greener Pastures
In an interview on NTV’s Sport On, Gacheru revealed that he wants Ryan Ogam to join a club that will help him become a better striker.
Gacheru noted that he wants Ryan Ogam to thrive, and hopefully even become Benni McCarthy’s first-choice striker.
“I think the next phase for Ryan is to be able to put him in a place where the level of instruction is higher, no disrespect to our coaches, but we must place him in an environment that challenges him, where he meets stronger defenders and faster strikers, and the surface is as fast as you’ve ever seen,” Gacheru said.
“We want the best in him to come out. I think the next stage is to send him to a market where he can meet a different level of football.”
Tusker FC Chairman: During CHAN, My Phone Was Blowing Up
Charles Gacheru added that it was Ryan Ogam’s exploits in CHAN 2024 that sparked interest from several agents.
He disclosed that, however, he did not inform Ryan Ogam of anything, and during the tournament, he only wished him luck.
He, however, pointed out that he remained in close communication with Ryan Ogam’s father, David Rabuok and after weeks of meetings, they finally found a destination that would suit his style of play and make him better.
“There has been a lot of interest, since Ryan became Ryan…the phone is blowing up. So, I have received a lot of interest from agents, but Ryan will tell you that throughout the CHAN period, we never discussed any formal contracts at all, I was conversing with his father, David,” Gacheru added.
“We formed a team and asked what was best for him and we walked that journey for the past two weeks and we arrived at a destination. We believe that it is the best destination for Ryan to be the best striker he can ever be.”
On his part, Ryan Ogam insisted that his focus right now is on making a mark as Harambee Stars face The Gambia and Seychelles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches scheduled for September 5 and 9.
