‘We are not good enough’ — Lewandowski slams Barcelona teammates after scoring hat-trick
Robert Lewandowski may have bagged a hat-trick in Barcelona’s thrilling 4–2 victory over Celta Vigo, but the Polish striker was in no mood to celebrate blindly.
Speaking after the match, he delivered a blunt assessment of the team’s defensive issues, admitting that the Blaugrana “are not good enough” at the back despite the much-needed win.
Lewandowski calls out Barcelona’s defensive weakness
After firing home his tenth goal of the season, Lewandowski used his post-match interview to urge improvement, particularly in defence.
“We have to analyse what we can improve,” he said. “We are not good enough in defence. After the international break we will play much better.”
His comments came even after Barcelona overcame their poor record at Abanca Balaídos to record only their third win in eleven visits.
The victory was anything but straightforward, as Barcelona conceded twice in the first half and were rescued by Lewandowski’s clinical finishing and a stunning strike from youngster Lamine Yamal.
Despite the scoreline, the defensive lapses that allowed Celta’s Sergio Carreira and Borja Iglesias to score left the striker frustrated, as he stressed the need for greater focus and structure if Barcelona are to keep pace with league leaders Real Madrid.
Hat-trick hero still optimistic about Barcelona’s season
Lewandowski, who recently returned from injury, revealed that he felt physically strong and turned down a substitution offer from manager Hansi Flick.
“Hansi Flick asked me if I wanted to come off in the second half and rest a few minutes. I told him I was fine,” he explained. “Physically, I felt incredible tonight.”
Despite his criticism, Lewandowski remains optimistic about the title race, noting that the win keeps Barcelona within three points of Madrid.
The veteran striker’s leadership and form could prove decisive as the Catalan giants aim to rebuild confidence after an inconsistent spell.
