Victor Oladipo: Nigerian Afrobeats star traded to Memphis Grizzlies for Steven Adams
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Memphis Grizzlies have decided to send Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Victor Oladipo and three second-round choices. Two second-round selections in 2024 and one in 2025 are headed to the Grizzlies.
Adams's chronic knee issues have prevented him from playing for more than a full year.
His right knee suffered a PCL sprain on January 22, 2023, which caused him to miss the rest of the previous season.
He was anticipated to return this season, but when non-operative rehabilitation was unable to address instability, he had season-ending knee surgery in October.
Adams won't be able to assist the Rockets this season, but they are preparing for the future, and once he gets well, he'll be a solid interior presence.
Despite his lack of scoring flair, Adams is a solid screener, defender, and rebounder. Last season, he was averaging a career-high 11.5 rebounds until he was injured.
A budding star big man in the making, Alperen Sengun, can get guidance from him off the court. He is considered as one of the league's best teammates.
Oladipo has also missed the entire season due to injury, and it is unknown when or if he will return to the court.
The former All-Star had a series of catastrophic injuries, the most recent of which was a torn patellar tendon on his left knee during the Miami Heat playoffs last season.
This summer, he will become an unrestricted free agent, and the Grizzlies can expect that he will go at that time.
