Under Fire Kaizer Chiefs Boss Makes Surprise Promise if Struggles Continue - ‘I Must Make Way’
Amid the struggles of Kaizer Chiefs, which has led to unhappiness among fans that culminated in a protest last week, Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr admits he is not a sacred cow.
Chiefs fans expressed their unhappiness at the way the club is run by the Motaung family while calling for co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef to be sacked last Saturday.
The supporters are disappointed after watching the Glamour Boys fall off from a title challenge to find themselves 17 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, even though they have two matches in hand, while they are out of all cup competitions.
With just one trophy in 11 years, the Chiefs fans want immediate changes and Motaung Jr accepts that he will also have to do better as he is not indispensable.
Motaung Jr Ready to Quit if Woes Persist
“Last year we ended a 10-year trophy drought, and it took three years to be able to change the club’s fortunes,” Motaung Jr told broadcaster Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide. “I firmly believe that if you work as a collective, there’s so much more that we can achieve. We also have goals and targets, but I’m here to work. I’m here to serve.”
“The time when I don’t achieve the goals like anybody else, then I will be the first person to be like, ‘well, listen, I’m not achieving the goals that I have set out.’ We are here to work and serve. There’s no one here who has a set job. Everyone has deliverables. Everyone has KPIs that you have to achieve,” he further said.
The 44-year-old, who is the man that sanctions signings at the club, is ready to take full responsibility for all his mistakes, and he is not ruling out leaving his post if push comes to shove.
“I’m fully focused on my responsibilities, and I think everyone that’s associated with the team is fully focused,” he added. “I’m here to work and serve. I have a job and a responsibility. And like anybody else, if I do not achieve the roles and objectives set out for me, then I must make way.”
