Uganda Rugby Cranes captain Ivan Magomu leads Rugby League scoring charts

With five games left to play in the Nile Special Rugby League season, Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates captain Ivan Magomu leads the scoring charts and is on course to becoming the top scorer.

The flyhalf has already registered 98 points and is 13 points ahead of Kobs back Joseph Aredo (85).

Magomu has been ever-present for the Sea Robbers this season, and most of his points have come off the boot.

In Pirates’ 27-22 win over the Jinja Hippos on Saturday, Magomu recorded seven points, three from a penalty and four from the two conversions made.

Aredo leads the chasing pack and has also been instrumental in Kobs’ run this season.

He scored all the 12 points for the Blue Army in Saturday’s 19-12 loss to rivals Heathens at Kyadondo.

Meanwhile, Heathens’ scrumhalf Aaron Ofoyrwoth is still in the conversation despite being out of league action at the moment.

His 85 points have him in the top three, tied with Aredo.

Makerere Impis’ Henry Nsekuye, on 84 points, is fourth.

Pius Ogena completes the top five with his 80 points. The Kobs’ eighth man is the leading try scorer in the league with 16.

He is currently chasing the 22 tries record held jointly by Kobs’ legend Allan Musoke and Ogena’s teammate Justin Kimono.

And with five games left, the former Toyota Buffaloes player has what it takes to hit that target.

Heathens’ Scot Oluoch has scored 12 tries and is on 60 points.

The defending champions ascended to the top of the league log after the win over Kobs on Saturday.

Teams will take time off for the Easter break before returning to run through the remainder of the season after that.
