Only seven teams have been registered to participate in the inaugural CECAFA Women U1-8 championship that will be held in Kenya later this month.

The regional body had agreed to form the age-group tournament to help nations vying for a place in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup preparations.
Only five of the 12 nations that form CECAFA registered to participate in the World Cup qualifiers starting in September.
They include Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Burundi.

Tanzania and their sisters Zanzibar are the two teams who didn’t register for the qualifiers but will participate in CECAFA.
The draws will be conducted this week to determine the two groups, with one expected to comprise four teams and three for the other.
