Udodi Onwuzurike storms to an incredible 19.76s to qualify for the 200m final at NCAA Championships

Nigeria's Udodi Onwuzurike was one of the star performers on the first day of the NCAA Championships, storming to a jaw-dropping 19.76s to win his 200m semifinal and qualify for the final.

Onwuzurike, who had earlier clocked 10.04s to become the first Stanford sprinter to advance to the NCAA men’s 100m final since 1963, will now be gunning for double titles in the finals.

His 200m time broke several records, first rising to No.3 on the NCAA all-time list, shattered his previous Personal Best of 19.91s, No.2 on the Nigerian all-time list behind Divine Oduduru's 19.73s, and is now No.2 on the world's top list just behind World champion Noah Lyles's 19.67s.

Speaking to FloTrack after his race, Onwuzurike said he's going to stay humble because he still has the final.

"The job is not finished, I came here to win. No matter what the time is I just want to win."

The 20-year-old will be on a quest to write his name in history by winning a medal in the 100m final and claiming the 200m title, Nigeria's first since Oduduru did the sprint double in 2019.
