Consequently, the Louisiana State University sophomore student obliterated his previous Personal Best (PB) of 10.04s, surpassed the World Championships qualifying standard of 10.00s, and is now the second-fastest in his school's history.
His time is also the fourth-fastest in Nigerian history behind Olusoji Fasuba's (9.85s), Divine Oduduru's (9.86s), and Udodi Onwuzurike's 9.92s.
Brume blazed to win his 100m semifinal, inspired by compatriot Favour Ashe, who had earlier clocked a PB and sub-10s of 9.96s to win his race and qualify for the final. Udodi Onwuzurike also advanced with 10.04s for a fourth-place finish behind Brume.
This means three Nigerian sprinters will be competing in the 100m final at the NCAA Championships, and all have great chances of medalling.
