UCL: Osimhen makes team of the week

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named The Guardian's forward of the week after an impressive performance for Napoli in the UEFA Champions League. 

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Osimhen was the hero for Napoli after they forced Barcelona to a share of the spoils in the Champions League round of 16 in midweek.

The Super Eagles star edged Robert Lewandowski in the Champions League for the forward of the week in the UCL. 

Despite looking fatigued after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty, Osimhen scored with his only attempt on goal to earn Napoli a 1-1 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

The Guardian praised Osimhen's clinical finish after he impressively shook off defender Inigo Martinez before crashing his shot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. 

In the head-to-head duel with Lewandowski, who also scored, the newspaper felt Osimhen's higher chance conversion rate gave him the edge.

The 25-year-old Super Eagles main man was the only Napoli player picked by the reliable British outfit. 

It was a memorable return to action for the 24-year-old after leading Nigeria to the AFCON final. By netting his first Champions League goal this season, Osimhen proved he can match the best strikers around.

His tireless display showcased the talent that has made him one of Europe's most feared marksmen.
