Transfer News Live! Chelsea, Arsenal join race to sign World Cup winner valued at ₦130 billion
Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly interested in Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.
The 24-year-old has been linked with an exit all summer, with Atletico Madrid credited with a strong interest but put off by Manchester City's asking fee of €75 million.
Alvarez linked to Arsenal, Chelsea
Alvarez has spent two seasons at City and was crucial last season with 19 goals for Pep Guardiola’s men as they romped to a fourth successive EPL title.
However, The Athletic reports that the Argentine World Cup winner is dissatisfied with his playing time and role as an understudy to Erling Haaland.
Chelsea and Arsenal are both in need of a new striker and Alvarez certainly fits the bill; young, experienced and clinical.
The report claims that City would not stand in Alvarez’s way but are demanding a £60m transfer fee, plus a further £17m in add-ons.
Alvarez made five appearances for Argentina in their successful Copa America campaign this summer and is now representing his country at the Olympics in Paris.
He will be granted an extended break and is set to miss the start of the new season with City, who play Manchester United in the Community Shield on August 10 before travelling to Chelsea for their Premier League opener on August 18.
