Tottenham vs Arsenal: Trossard's previous admission should encourage Arteta before North London derby

Leandro Trossard has quickly established himself as a vital asset for Arsenal, and his versatility has been a key factor in his success since joining the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. 

While many fans have admired his performances on the left wing, the Belgian midfielder has revealed that his preferred position is behind the striker, in a playmaking role.

“I like to be in the pocket behind the striker," said Trossard when he joined the club. “On the wings, I can explore myself as well. I’m comfortable in either of those positions but if I were to choose, behind the striker – but it all depends on the system.”

However, Mikel Arteta faces a significant challenge in midfield for the upcoming North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. 

With Declan Rice suspended, Mikel Merino out with a shoulder issue, and Martin Odegaard sustaining an ankle injury on international duty with Norway, Arteta must find a suitable combination to fill the void.

A potential solution could be to deploy a midfield trio consisting of Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Trossard, with that combination allowing players like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and perhaps Raheem Sterling to focus on attacking duties.

A depleted Arsenal travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 15 seeking a third consecutive away win against their neighbours.
