Thomas Omolle’s Goal Helps Tusker Edge Mara Sugar to Return to Winning Ways Following Gor Mahia Defeat
Tusker secured a vital 1-0 victory over Mara Sugar in an FKF Premier League clash held at the Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Brewers, who were off enduring two back-to-back defeats to Kenya Police and Gor Mahia respectively, knew that a win would have been enough to see them back on track in their race for the 2025/2026 league title, and deliver they did.
The breakthrough came early in the match when Thomas Omolle Dugger put Tusker ahead in the 28th minute, finishing off a well-crafted move that set the tone for the rest of the game. Tusker started brightly and maintained control for much of the first half.
At halftime, coach made a tactical switch, bringing on David Polepole for Cliff Oruko to freshen up the midfield. The changes continued in the second half with Yakeen Muteheli replacing Curtis Wekesa on the hour mark, injecting further energy into the side.
Despite some resistance from Mara Sugar, Tusker kept their composure and defended their slender lead well. Brandon Obiero was shown a yellow card in the 80th minute for delaying play, but the visitors remained unfazed.
In the final stages, Tusker made a double substitution, with Chrispine Erambo and Ian Simiyu coming on for Fabian Adikiny and goal scorer Thomas Omolle to help see out the match.
The win marks an important step for Tusker as they look to regain momentum in the FKF Premier League.
Sofapaka 0-0 APS Bomet
APS Bomet capped off a productive week in Nairobi with a hard-earned 0–0 draw against Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium, adding to their earlier stunning 4–1 win over Gor Mahia and a major Ksh11 million sponsorship boost.
Sofapaka dominated possession in the first half and created several clear openings—including two close chances for Dennis Ng’ang’a—but Bomet’s defensive organisation, heroic goalkeeping from Bob Cetric, and a goal-line clearance from Edward Masembe kept the match level.
The second half swung further in Bomet’s favour after Sofapaka midfielder Japheth Mzungu was sent off early, later followed by Shaibu’s dismissal, leaving Batoto ba Mungu with nine men.
Despite the numerical advantage and improved attacking flow following Bomet’s substitutions, neither side found the breakthrough. Sofapaka earned applause for their resilience, while the point edged Bomet to within touching distance of safety in the FKF Premier League table.
