Gor Mahia vs APS Bomet: Coach Reveals Strategy That Tamed K’Ogalo

Benedict Wanjala revealed that the win over Gor Mahia was the result of hard work and a long search for a breakthrough, noting that his team has been steadily building toward such a performance.

He explained that he had a strong belief in his players despite the setbacks they had faced, adding that earlier results had often been influenced by avoidable errors.

The coach pointed out that even the opening goal they conceded came from a simple mistake, but stressed that the team’s growing discipline and confidence were now beginning to show in their performances.

“We have worked really hard, and we were searching for a victory for a very long time. As I said, there is something we are building, and I strongly believe in my players. We have been making silly mistakes, and even when you look at the first goal, it was just a simple mistake, and we conceded,” the coach revealed.

The coach explained that he had motivated his players by emphasising that, despite Gor Mahia taking an early lead, they were determined not to leave the stadium with a loss.

He noted that most of his squad had never faced Gor Mahia before, and he framed the match as an opportunity for them to rise to the occasion.

Benedict Wanjala added that big games serve as motivation and are instrumental in a player’s development.

While acknowledging that the team had been performing well overall, he admitted that defensive lapses had been a recurring issue.

“I told the players that despite Gor Mahia taking the early lead, we were not going to leave the stadium empty-handed. Most of my players have never played with Gor Mahia, and that was their main motivation,” he revealed.

“I told them that if there was an easy game to win, then it would be against Gor Mahia. I told them that the big games are always a source of motivation and building a player.

“We have been playing well, but the defence has been poor. Even when you look at today’s match, we conceded an easy game, but I told the players to give their all because they will be building themselves.”

APS Bomet face Sofapaka in their next match, and they hope to continue with the hot streak and walk away with another commanding victory.
