The fate of the 98th Mashemeji Derby has been sealed, not on the pitch, but through a logistical deadlock that has forced the organizers to call off the match entirely.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have publicly confirmed that their scheduled clash against arch-rivals AFC Leopards will not take place this weekend.

Taking to their official social media channels, the club broke the silence that had been building up over the last 24 hours, putting an end to the speculation regarding the venue crisis.

The club, which was designated as the host team for this first-leg fixture, admitted that efforts to secure a suitable stadium in Nairobi had hit a dead end. With both the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Nyayo National Stadium booked for other high-profile engagements, the management had no choice but to push the game back.

"The highly anticipated Derby match that was set for this weekend postponed due to unavailability of venue; new date to be communicated in the coming days," the club placed post on X.

This public admission comes hours after leaked correspondence indicated the club had formally written to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) requesting a change of date.

The confirmation serves as a definitive blow to the "Green Army" and "Ingwe" supporters, many of whom had already begun mobilizing for what is traditionally the standout fixture of the FKF Premier League calendar.

The postponement avoids the chaotic scenario of a last-minute cancellation at the stadium gates but introduces a fresh wave of frustration.

Fans are now left in limbo, waiting for the federation to navigate a congested fixture list to find a new window that accommodates both the league schedule and the unavailability of Nairobi's primary sporting cathedrals.

This marks the third time in 2025 that the fixture has faced scheduling issues, reinforcing a growing concern about the state of sports infrastructure in the capital.
