Thembinkosi Lorch Addresses Wydad AC Departure After Sealing High-Profile Al Ittihad Transfer
Thembinkosi Lorch has delivered a heartfelt farewell message to Wydad Athletic Club after completing a high-profile transfer to Libyan side Al Ittihad.
The 32-year-old former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star featured for Wydad AC in their recent CAF Confederation Cup victory over Maniema Union, despite his move being all but finalised.
Reports have also suggested that he might feature for Wydad AC on Sunday in their return-leg match before he officially departs the club.
“The coaches may still utilise him for the return leg in the DRC this coming Sunday,” a source close to the deal revealed to FARPost.
“A final decision on his travel to Libya will be made later this week based on the squad’s needs for the away trip.”
Thembinkosi Lorch Breaks Silence
Visibly emotional after the CAF Confederation Cup match, Thembinkosi Lorch expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan club's hierarchy and his teammates.
"First of all, I’d like to thank the president of the team for bringing me here," he said, in an interview with Pan-Africa Football.
"And I would like to thank the technical team, the coach, and my teammates for welcoming me into this team. I wish them well."
Reflecting on the game, he lauded the players for giving their best efforts, noting that they had to put in the work to get the three points.
He noted that the opportunity to play his final games for Wydad AC means a lot to him as he wished the remaining players and technical bench all the best as they look forward to continuing to transform the club.
"Coming to the game, I think we played well, especially in the second half. We had to dig deep to get the three points. I think their goalkeeper was Man of the Match, we were supposed to score three goals, but we’re happy we’ve got the three points," he said.
"Like I said, I would like to thank this team for allowing me to play, not everyone gets the opportunity to play for a big team like Wydad," he concluded. "I will take this opportunity until I retire, and I wish the team good luck."
