Thomas Tuchel has suggested that his team deserves better than the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City tonight, saying the result does not tell the true story of the encounter.

Manchester City ran away 3-0 winners over the Bavarians in the first-leg of their Champions League encounter.

The match in brief

The Cityzens took the lead in the 27th minute of the game thanks to a rocket from outside the box by Rodri with his weaker foot.

Bernardo Silva made it two in the 70th minute, heading past Yann Sommer from an Erling Haaland cross.

The Norwegian went from provider to scorer for the third, firing in from close range after John Stones headed the ball into his path.

What Tuchel said

The Bayern Munich boss, relatively new at the job and fresh off a DFB Pokal exit at the hands of Freiburg, has said his team deserved more than the heavy defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

He said he urged his players not to dwell on the result, as it does not paint an honest picture of the match. He believes his team did a lot of things right in the game, but the embarrassing result changes perspectives.

Tuchel thought his team played with personality and courage and was deserving of more than the result at the end of the game.

"I tried to not allow my players to focus on the result. It does not tell the story of this match,” he said, per the BBC.

“That will be the challenge to focus on the things we did good.

"We played with personality and courage. We did not get the reward we deserved for the effort."

Bayern would have a chance, albeit a slim one, to overturn the tie and book a place in the semi-final next week when they host Pep Guardiola's side at the Allianz Arena.
