Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne was the hero for Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg win over Copenhagen as he scored and assisted in the 3-1 win over the Danish side.

De Bruyne leads Manchester City to UCL brink

De Bruyne was at his majestic best, opening the scoring and providing an assist for Bernardo Silva in the statement win before Phil Foden put the cherry on top for the Cityzens in extra time to seal a 3-1 victory. 

Manchester City’s victory away to Copenhagen gives them a solid footing in the UCL round of 16, with the away leg still to come at the Etihad Stadium.

The defending champions’ ruthless finishing was the difference between them ans their hosts as they take another step towards retaining the title won in the 2022/23 season. 

If they are able to do so, they will be the first team to successfully defend the UEFA Champions League since Real Madrid’s three-peat between 2016 and 2018.
