‘The Club Has Thrown Me Under the Bus’ - Salah Casts Doubt on Liverpool Future as He Slams Slot Over Bench Role
Mohamed Salah has sensationally claimed he feels "thrown under the bus" by Liverpool, revealing a complete breakdown in his relationship with head coach Arne Slot.
The Egyptian forward was an unused substitute for the third consecutive match during Saturday's dramatic 3-3 draw at Leeds United. Following the game, Salah, who has scored 250 goals for the club, gave an extraordinary interview to reporters.
"I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame," he stated. "I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don't have any relationship."
Salah: ‘I Have Been Thrown Under the Bus’
Salah continued, expressing his confusion and frustration with the situation. "I don't know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling."
Despite the turmoil, he reaffirmed his commitment to the club's supporters. "This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will."
However, he made his discontent clear. "It [the situation] is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don't get it. I don't think I'm the problem. I have done so much for this club. I don't have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it."
The forward, who is set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15, also cast doubt on his long-term future at Anfield, despite having signed a new two-year contract in April.
A Challenge to Slot's Authority
Salah, 33, was instrumental in Liverpool's Premier League title win last season—Slot's first in charge—scoring 29 goals. This term, however, his form has dipped, with just four goals in 13 league appearances as the team has struggled to replicate its previous success.
The public outburst is a clear challenge to Slot's authority and comes amid long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League. Clubs in the region, including Al-Hilal, are reportedly keen to sign Salah, arguably the most famous footballer from the Middle East. Sources indicate that Liverpool is now open-minded about the player's future.
After the draw at Elland Road, where Liverpool surrendered a late lead, Slot explained his decision not to bring Salah on. "It was more about controlling the game [at 3-2] and we didn't need a goal," the manager told Sky Sports before Salah's explosive interview. "Normally when you need a goal, like last week against Sunderland, I brought Mo on."
Salah's last start for the Reds was in the 4-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven on November 26.
