A video has surfaced on the internet showing Arsenal's goalkeeper making a bizarre statement, and fans believe it was one of the reasons that led him to lose his spot as the first-choice goalkeeper to Brentford loanee David Raya.

The English shot-stopper replaced Bernd Leno as the Gunner’s main goalkeeper in the 2021/22 season, and last term he endeared himself to many, as he was one of the top performers in Arsenal’s nigh-league winning campaign.

Hence, it shocked many when Arsenal signed Raya from Brentford in the summer, and even more surprising was that the Spaniard almost immediately replaced Ramsdale between the sticks.

What Ramsdale said

A clip of Aaron Ramsdale on the Beyond the Game show, which features Arsenal legend Ian Wright as one of the co-hosts, made the rounds on the internet.

The goalkeeper spoke about many topics, but a particular revelation by the former Sheffield United man shocked many, even Wright, who was visibly perplexed by Ramsdale’s tale.

Ramsdale explained that he had a problem with concentrating over the full course of a football match, hence his regular antics with supporters in the stands. He said he always engaged fans to pass the time during games, and this helps him.

What Arsenal fans said

Upon watching the video, many fans were taken aback that a professional footballer would publicly make such a revelation, as they believed it to be damning. Many even hypothesised that the statement could have led to him losing his spot to the Raya.

“Ramsdale's days were numbered after he dropped this bombshell. He should’ve kept it to himself,” one fan said. Another went: “Arteta saw him say this and said, Nah, I need Raya. We need to win games and keep clean sheets as well.”

A befuddled third said, “Why would a goalkeeper even say this?” A fourth, “80% of being a keeper at a title-challenging club is being switched on at all times, for that *1* save you'll have to make. Alisson vs Brentford, last weekend, for example. This is an admittance that he'll never be a top keeper, and he needs to be active (mid-table).”
