Talanta Stadium: Two Major Facilities to Be Added as Stunning New Look is Revealed
Talanta Stadium, Kenya’s ultramodern football facility which is nearing completion, is set to have a shopping mall and hotel as per the latest government updates.
The 60,000-seater facility, which will be Kenya’s main venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, is shaping up well with its completion projected to be in March 2026.
With a little under three months before that deadline, the stadium is getting a new look that is already exciting fans and in addition to the sporting facility, there will be two supporting infrastructures.
As per a tender notice from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), bids have been open to developers with the successful one set to receive a 40-year special-use licence for the 300-room four-star hotel and the mall that will occupy 30,000 square meters.
Notice Explains Benefits of Mall and Hotel
“The special use licence shall confer on the successful bidder an exclusive right to occupy and utilise the specified parcel of KFS for the purposes of developing, financing, constructing and operating the 4-star hotel and shopping mall,” KFS, which is providing the land for the two facilities, said in its tender notice.
“It is envisioned that the hotel and the shopping mall will catalyse new demand for Talanta Sports City by offering modern hospitality services, enabling larger events and tournaments, and stimulating further investment within the same land parcel.
“The hotel will provide a unique platform for athletes, officials, spectators, corporate guests, and tourists to access high-quality hospitality services directly within Nairobi’s premier sports destination,” the statement further says.
What’s The Progress of Construction Work?
These two facilities will further boost the stadium’s stature as the main hub for sporting activities in Kenya and the region once it is finally ready.
Meanwhile, construction work at the stadium has reached its exterior with the installation of the stadium emblem while interior canopy works are nearing completion. The playing surface is also being levelled to meet international standards.
“A defining feature of the facility is its state-of-the-art, fully computerized hydraulic tension cable roof-lifting system, an elite engineering innovation found in only four other stadiums worldwide, underscoring the project's global stature,” Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo posted on social media, while providing the latest update on the stadium’s construction.
Talanta Stadium, located in Nairobi’s Jamhuri, will also have seven modern changing rooms, VIP lounges, fully equipped media centres and VAR booths integrated with goal-line technology.
