Strathmore Leos Make Light Work of KCB to Clinch 2025 Embu 7s Title
Strathmore Leos outclassed circuit leaders KCB 31-21 in a pulsating Embu 7s final at Ngujiri Showground, cutting the Bankers’ lead in the National Sevens Circuit to just three points and throwing the title race wide open.
The Leos, who had fallen short against Menengai Oilers in last week’s Christie 7s semifinal, came into Embu with intent and wasted no time stamping their authority.
Nygel Amaitsa set the tone early, pouncing on a loose pass deep in his own 22 before sprinting the length of the field to score the opener.

Moments later, Arnold Muita created space out wide for Victor Mola to cross for the second try, stretching Strathmore’s advantage.
KCB’s troubles at the restart continued to haunt them, and Stanlus Shikoli capitalized on a fumbled high ball to dot down for the Leos’ third. Barnabas Owuor then cut through the bankers’ midfield defense to add a fourth, with Muita converting twice to secure a commanding 24-7 halftime lead.
The bankers, however, responded strongly after the restart, taking full advantage of Gabriel Ayimba’s yellow card.
Floyd Wabwire struck twice in quick succession, and with Brian Wahinya adding both conversions, KCB closed the gap to just three points at 21-24, shifting the momentum in their favor.
But Strathmore would not be denied. With KCB threatening a comeback, substitute Samuel Wafula sliced through the defense and outpaced Vincent Onyala to score the decisive try. Muita’s conversion sealed a famous 31-21 victory and handed the Leos their first cup title of the 2025 circuit.
Earlier, Strathmore had eliminated Menengai Oilers in the semifinal, gaining sweet revenge after last weekend’s disappointment.
The Oilers went on to settle for third place in Embu with a 31-0 hammering of MMUST, while Kenya Harlequins claimed fifth after edging Kabras 15-5.
Catholic Monks overcame Mean Machine 15-5 for ninth, as Impala outclassed Nondescripts 19-5 to top the 13th-place playoff.
Mwamba Ladies Continue to Reign Supreme
In the women’s competition, Mwamba reigned supreme, winning all their matches in the round-robin format to lift the Embu 7s crown, picking up where they left off a fortnight ago during the Christie 7s competition
KCB remain top of the National Sevens Circuit standings on 66 points, but Strathmore have now closed the gap to 63, setting up a thrilling finish to the final two legs of the series.
