NPFL side Lobi Stars have been crowned champions of the Benue State FA Cup following a four-goal thriller against the Red and Black Flames.
Lobi Stars proved too good for the Flames after a comprehensive 3-1 win at the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi on Thursday.
The win came courtesy goals from Joseph Atule, Solomon Kwambe and Terdoo Shimagande as a solid second half performance saw the NPFL side overcome a scare from Red Black to dig deep for the win.
Match brief
Lobi Stars started on a positive and dominated the game from start to finish but took a first-half lead through the reliable Atule who opened the gates of goals.
The non-league Red and Black found their way back into the game seven minutes in the second half when Nwaogu Benjamin shocked Lobi with the equaliser.
However, the Pride of Benue restored their lead 10 minutes later as Super Eagles star, Kwambe, struck an excellent free kick to give them a 2-1 win.
The game was signed and sealed at the death by super-sub, Shimagande, who made it 3-1.
With the win, Lobi Stars were crowned champions of the state's FA Cup and will represent the state alongside the Flames in the National Federation Cup.
