Ssesazi motivated by hitting more centuries
Cricket Cranes batsman Simon Ssesazi is hungry for more success after a series of standout performances throughout 2022.
The 26-year-old was named the best batsman in the Uganda Cricket League and racked up several man of the match awards for the national team, the Cricket Cranes, in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B League.
Ssesazi says that while his lofty achievements last year motivated and got him excited, it only shows how much he has improved and wants to topple those achievements.
“I feel excited about what I achieved in 2022 both on the local and international level; for me, it shows my game has improved for both the country and club,” he noted.
“I want to work harder and do better this year; the awards are an encouragement, but to win more, you need to double the effort.”
Ssesazi’s most significant achievement was the first Ugandan to reach 1000 T20I runs during the Tri-Nations series in Kigali, which Uganda won.
The soft-spoken cricketer also picked up his first century for the national team in Kigali, picking up 100 runs off 58 balls, and he adds that his target now is to hit more centuries.
“My aim now is to make sure I get more centuries both on the local and international scene but also play at the biggest stages in the world,” Ssesazi explianed.
Ssesazi made his senior Cricket Cranes debut in 2017 during the Malaysia tour, but it was a disastrous start which nearly ended his career.
However, the appointment of Lawrence Mahatlane as head coach gave him a lifeline, and he has since improved his game to become a household name.
Ssesazi is part of the current cricket Cranes squad undergoing vigorous strength and conditioning sessions as they prepare for another campaign.
The Cricket Cranes are preparing for the upcoming ICC global T20 qualifiers, which will be hosted in Kampala.
