The Spanish women's national team seemingly banished the distractions from the fallout of Luis Rubiales's transgressions during the World Cup final, showing why they lifted the Mundial in Australia with their dominance of the Nations League.

They did suffer a 3-2 defeat to Italy in the group stages, but were otherwise flawless, beating Sweden and Switzerland twice, and Italy once away from home.
La Furia Roja routed the Netherlands 3-0 in the semi-finals, to book the final against a France team, led by Herve Renard, that conquered Germany in the semis.
