Solution for Wasteful Harambee Stars? Moses Shumah at the Double to Take Season’s Tally to 17 in Zambia
Why Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has decried a lack of clinical edge from his team but could one that he has overlooked in his recent assignments prove to be the solution?
McCarthy admitted it was concerning when his team wasted many chances against Estonia and Grenada in last month’s FIFA Series but the form of Moses Shumah suggests he could ease some of those worries.
Shumah continued his sensational form, scoring twice to guide Zambian champions Power Dynamos to a decisive 3-0 victory over Mines United in a rescheduled league match at Arthur Davies Stadium on Wednesday.
Moses Shumah Completes Fourth Brace
Dynamos established their authority early, with midfielder Austin Muwowo opening the scoring just 15 minutes into the match. Muwowo rose to meet a precise cross from Evans Ogbonda, heading the ball home to give the hosts an early lead.
The champions maintained their offensive pressure, and their efforts were rewarded nine minutes before halftime when Shumah found the net.
The former Kakamega Homeboyz striker connected with a pass from Daniel Adoko and calmly slotted a low, right-footed shot past goalkeeper Chitambala Christo, sending his team into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
After the restart, Mines United displayed improved defensive resolve, successfully thwarting the champions' attacks for a significant portion of the second half. However, their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Shumah struck again to secure the win.
Kenyan Striker Firms Up Golden Boot Chase
The lanky forward capitalised on a defensive error, reacting swiftly to a loose ball and firing home his second of the match to put the result beyond doubt. This was Shumah's fourth brace of the season, following similar feats against Napsa Stars, Konkola Blades, and FC Muza.
With this latest double, Shumah's league tally climbs to 17 goals, solidifying his position as the top scorer and strengthening his bid for a first Golden Boot award with his team now enjoying a four-point lead at the top of the standings.
Shumah was among players left out of the squad by McCarthy for the FIFA Series despite his great form in Zambia but he has continued doing his talking on the pitch which might force a rethink from the Harambee Stars boss.
