SJAK FC Rekindle Memories of Man United’s 8-2 Win Over Arsenal With Thumping of Azam
In a match reminiscent of Manchester United's historic 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal in 2011, the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK FC) delivered a stunning performance, overwhelming rivals Azam TV by the same scoreline in a friendly encounter on Saturday.
The one-sided contest, held at the Kenya School of Law in Karen, Nairobi, saw SJAK FC in complete control from start to finish.
The sports journalists' team showcased their attacking prowess, with Mathew Tuta netting a brace. He was joined on the scoresheet by Steve Ayoo, Stephen Ochieng, Brian Amlyoto, Benson Dibo, Alvin Arocho, and Erick 'Opong' Ochieng, who all found the back of the net.
Azam TV's lead commentator, Salim Ali, managed to score two consolation goals for his side, but it was not enough to stem the tide against a dominant SJAK team.
This match served as the season opener for SJAK FC, which is preparing for a busy schedule of local and international fixtures.
SJAK FC Reveal Big Plans
"We have a number of high-end fixtures this year, and we were using this game to gauge our level of fitness," explained SJAK Executive Committee Member Beki Mwamburi. "We have planned for at least two friendly matches every month as we gear up for other international battles. Winning this match with such a huge margin is a sign of good things to come."
Following the match, Azam TV members were encouraged to join SJAK, an organisation dedicated to promoting the rights and welfare of sports journalists in Kenya.
Later this month, SJAK members are scheduled for a four-day anti-doping training session in Mombasa, organised by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK).
New SJAK member Anita Omwenga of the Kenya News Agency expressed her excitement after the event. "I'm happy to finally be a full SJAK member,” she said.
“Today, I had the chance to attend the association's football match, where I could meet, interact, and socialize with other like-minded members. I can't wait to travel to the Kenyan coast with SJAK,” Omwenga further stated.
