Shakira’s lawyer says Ramos would have been a better lover, fault Pique for £7 million tax fraud charge
Pique and Shakira announced their breakup in June 2022 and have since moved on to dating another lady
However, after their breakup, the Colombian singer was hit with six fraud charges due to her 11-year relationship with the retired Barcelona football player.
Molins, Shakira’s lawyer was not pleased with the tax fraud hit by her client due to the wealth tax paid in Catalonia.
Shakira’s lawyer’s complain
Molins, Shakira’s attorney asserted that the tax laws in Spain are not equitable for all clients after reaching a plea agreement.
According to him, those who live in Madrid, where Ramos played for Real Madrid, are exempt from wealth tax, while people who live in Catalonia, where Shakira resided with Barcelona star Pique, must pay wealth tax.
Regarding the singer's connection to Pique, Molins stated as reported by the Sun, "Shakira’s infatuation has cost her 120 million euros.
"If she had fallen in love with Sergio Ramos instead of Gerard Pique, it would have cost her a lot less.
"They go on about the equality of all Spaniards, but it turns out that if you’re resident in Catalonia you can go to jail for a crime they couldn’t imprison you for in Madrid."
Shakira would have saved about £100 million if she had lived with Ramos, who is based in Madrid, as the Real player does not live in a region where wealth tax is levied.
Molins also insisted he had wanted to go to trial, saying: "I thought we could have won," but said Shakira had decided to make a deal.
Shakira entered into a plea agreement in a Barcelona court, admitting to six counts of tax fraud and agreeing to pay £7 million to avoid a hefty eight-year prison sentence.
She claimed that she took the charges so that she could go with her career and for the benefit of her kids, Sasha and Milan.
