Sha'Carri Richardson and Fraser-Pryce make bold statements in 100m heats in Budapest

US speed sensation Sha'Carri Richardson and defending World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce made bold statements with their cruising performances in their respective qualifying heats at the World Championships in Budapest.

Richardson ran an effortless race in heat 5 of the women's 100m, shutting down 30m to go and still clocked the fastest overall time of 10.92s (0.4).

Jamaica's Natasha Morrison finished second in 11.02s, and Zainab Dosso equalled the Italian National Record for third in 11.14s.

The American speedster is one of the top favourites for the world title, and her performance in the heats showed she's not in Budapest to settle for anything less.

Likewise, Fraser-Pryce proved her readiness to defend her title by beginning her campaign with a convincing time of 11.01s (0.2) to win heat 7, jogging half of the race ahead of Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji in 11.08s and Australia's Zoe Hobbs in 11.14s.

The Jamaican legend will be gunning for her history-making sixth title if she scales through the semis and qualifies for the final.

Other top performances were Poland's Ewa Swoboda overhauling the lead of USA's Tamari Davis in the closing stages to win heat 3 with a time of 10.98s (-0.4). Davis was second in 11.06s, while Netherland's N'Ketia Seedo ran a Personal Best (PB) of 11.11s for third.

Shericka Jackson and Marie-Josee Ta Lou also won their heats convincingly to advance to the semifinals.
