Setback for Liverpool and Bayern summer plans with Alonso set to stay in Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, sets a confident tone about retaining the managerial maestro Xabi Alonso beyond this electrifying season. Alonso, with his strategic acumen, has steered Leverkusen to an unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga, leaving giants like Bayern Munich in their wake and securing a comfortable lead at the pinnacle of the table.

Rolfes, in a recent SPORT1 interview, underscored the blend of contractual security, familial comfort, and a promising squad outlook as key ingredients in their recipe for continuity.

"Yes, I'm sure [he will stay]. One [reason] is contract constellations. The other thing is how comfortable he feels—with the family, himself and that he knows what he has in the club. Also, he has a very good team; we will have a very good perspective next year and there is no change in the team.” 

“We will definitely have a top team available next year. These are all points that, in addition to contracts, coaches like Xabi but also players who arouse interest from other clubs often keep us with us," Rolfes detailed, painting a vivid picture of Leverkusen's commitment to excellence and stability.”

Rolfes further elaborated on Alonso's unique approach to management, praising his flexibility and willingness to adapt strategies to maximise the squad's potential.
