Cucalon’s challenges began in September 2022 when he suffered a devastating torn ligament in his right knee during a UEFA Youth League match.
His recovery was further complicated by a bacterial infection that ultimately dashed his hopes of returning to the field.
Despite extensive efforts to rehabilitate, the young talent found himself unable to fully recover.
Reflecting on his journey, Cucalon expressed gratitude to Real Madrid and his supporters.
“I didn’t know how to start this letter. So I’ll do it by saying Thank you to everyone. From the heart. For all the support you have given me during this time,” he wrote.
Joining Real Madrid’s academy in 2016 as a young, hopeful player, Cucalon described his time with the club as a period of personal and professional growth.
He acknowledged the difficulty of stepping away from the game but chose to focus on the positive experiences he had within the club.
“For these past two years, I have struggled physically and mentally with all my might but it has not been possible to recover from it,” he continued.
“This is not a sad farewell. After all, I think I have been truly privileged to have been part of the best club in the world and to have lived a dream.”
The central midfielder’s time at Real Madrid spanned seven seasons after joining in 2016 going briefly on loan to Las Rozas CF in early 2023 before returning to Madrid.
