Paul Pogba Honours Cristiano Ronaldo After Bagging Globe Award: 'You Have Inspired All of Us'
While accepting the Comeback of the Year award at the Globe Soccer Awards, French midfielder Paul Pogba took a moment to praise his former Manchester United teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, calling him an inspiration for all players.
The event was also a success for Cristiano Ronaldo, who was named Best Player and ended the year on a high note.
The Portuguese star recently scored twice for Al-Nassr in a 3-0 win against Al-Akhdood on December 27, taking his career goal tally to an astonishing 956.
Pogba's award recognised his return to professional football after a challenging period. In September 2023, the Juventus midfielder was handed a four-year suspension after a drug test revealed elevated testosterone levels.
However, he successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), arguing the substance was ingested unintentionally due to a medical error. His ban was subsequently reduced to 18 months.
After signing with AS Monaco, Paul Pogba made his official return to the pitch on November 22, nearly two years after his last appearance.
Paul Pogba Shares Emotional Speech
His emotional acceptance speech for the Comeback Award highlighted the difficulties he faced and the people who supported him.
"It wasn't easy... It was a very important moment for me, in my life, to see the people that were really there for you, the people that really love you when you are outside the shiny moment," Pogba stated.
"This award means a lot, for me and for my wife... we've gone through so much together. She helped me a lot, and my kids kept me smiling," he added.
Paul Pogba Praises Cristiano Ronaldo
The French international then turned his attention to Ronaldo, who was also in attendance.
"Cristiano, you are here, you have inspired all of us as a soccer player," Paul Pogba said directly to the Al-Nassr forward. "You did this for the next generation. Big thank you, Cristiano."
Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo were teammates at Manchester United during the 2021-22 season, sharing the field in 21 matches.
Now with Monaco, Paul Pogba has featured in three games, accumulating 30 minutes of play as he continues his journey back to full form, drawing motivation from his decorated former colleague.
